Sponsor a Water System
and Transform A Community

The Gazelle Foundation builds an average of six water systems per year through traditional donations and fundraising. By fully funding one water project, you will significantly increase the number of people to get clean water each year and help eradicate water-borne illnesses and diseases in Burundi. We have systems ready and waiting for funding.

Our next water system depends on you.

How SPONSORSHIP Works

Designing and building a water system is no simple task, however we think sponsoring one should be. Our proven processes and high success rates keep sponsorship simple. Your involvement with the project will be as thorough as you want it to be with open team communication and reporting.

Clean water is foundational to reversing the cycle of poverty. When a community, school, or health clinic receives access to clean water, everything changes. Health improves. Children attend school. Parents have time to earn extra income. And the long-term effect of having access to clean water will be life-changing.

It is truly one of the best investments you can make. We hope you’ll make it with us.

The Impact of a Single Water System

A single water system reduces or eliminates deadly waterborne diseases, and clean water is available to all people regardless of tribe or religion, healing divisions and building common ground. Clean water gives residents time to grow food, earn an income, spend time with family, and attend school — all of which are foundational to reducing the cycle of poverty.

When construction kicks off the life-changing impact begins.

  • Once a specific water system is selected and funded our team in the United States greenlights the project, and contracts between the Gazelle Foundation and our project manager in Burundi are executed. The contract includes schematics, a timeline, an exact budget, and reporting standards.

Our project manager in Burundi oversees every aspect of the project from purchasing supplies to the transportation of materials and tools to the job site to hiring workers, construction, testing, and handover of the system to the beneficiary community.

Our team in the United States is in regular contact with the project manager to verify that construction is on time, and on budget using reports, photographs, GPS, and receipts.

Our unique structure and on-the-ground partnerships help maintain a lower-than-average cost to build effective systems.

Our long-term presence as an international organization (17+ years) has proven invaluable when working within Burundi’s governmental regulations.

  • Our systems employ a low-tech, sustainable approach to water system construction that is simple but effective, both in the short term and the long run.

Water is captured from a hilltop spring source before it can become contaminated. It is filtered in the collection chamber and uses gravity to flow onward. Entrenched PVC pipe carries water to tanks and to multiple tap stands.

Tap stands are strategically positioned within easy walking distance to schools, churches, community centers, and other central locations to maximize access points for residents. Water is available for free to all people regardless of the person’s tribe or religion.
