Lasting Impact Of Your Support In 2023

This year our supporters have been a part of something truly transformative: bringing clean water — health, education, income - to four communities in Burundi. 2023 brings us, 6,650 people closer to achieving our goal of providing every person in Burundi with clean water, the highest quality of life, and hope within reach.

One of the key components of our work is the handoff of the water system. Upon completion, we turn ownership and stewardship of the system over to the community. The local workers employed to build our systems have the maintenance knowledge that allows for greater long-term viability and sustainability of our systems. Read more about the handover.

2023 System Highlights:

System #63: Kabigomogomo

Constructed Jan - Mar 2021, Matana Colline

This system has changed the lives of everyone who relies on the Nyazuba Health Center in addition to supporting the local community. which is located in mountainous terrain like many of the areas we serve. Previously, this community relied on a contaminated water source several miles away. This system was fully funded by the 2022 Amazi For Burundi Sustaining Donor Community. We thank the generous individuals who changed the lives of the people in this community through access to clean water.

System #64 Kigomera-Matana

Constructed January 31, 2023 - March 31, 2023 Matana Colline

This system was funded in part by 2022 Global Run For The Water participants. The community includes a primary school, college, community center, and a slaughterhouse.

During construction, the project scope was modified to bring clean water to a key location in the community: a slaughterhouse. Favorable water flow from the source made the modification feasible. The modification extended the length of the distribution pipeline, and added a storage tank, and tap stand. Water access at the slaughterhouse will have a significant public health impact on the community.

“Joy and happiness are everywhere...The people are celebrating with joy! I can’t stop watching! Thank you for supporting the Gazelle Foundation. You are making an impact on Burundians."  —Gilbert Tuhabonye

System #65 Nyabisage-Mugomera Extension Water System

Constructed April 6, 2023 - July 5, 2023.  Mugamba Colline

Gazelle Foundation refurbished and extended a failed water system originally constructed decades ago by a different organization. Our project success rate is 100%  and we’re proud that year after year we design and build effective and efficient sustainable water systems.  Our team engineered a water system that will provide clean water to this community for generations to come. The water source has the appropriate flow for a system this size. The construction team built collection chamber, refurbished two existing tanks and added new infrastructure to bring clean water and hope to many more people in the years to come. This system was completed 2-1/2 weeks ahead of schedule.

System #66: Nyazuba

Constructed July 19, 2023  — October 12, 2023, Matana Colline.

The system was completed 3 weeks ahead of schedule.
