In January 2017, our board of directors approved eight water projects to be completed by the end of year, which will impact 18,250 people in Burundi. To date, we have completed two projects and currently have three projects under construction. We are excited to share updates from the field on our current projects!
Mugahisha-Matasi-Ruhororo Water System #35
Mugatanganika-Kigabiro Water System #34
Mashuha-Mahonda Water System #33
We are pleased to announce that construction on the Mashuha-Mahonda Water System #33 began on August 1, 2016 and was completed October 27, 2016. The project is located in the Yengero Colline of the Songa Commune within Bururi Province.
Nyabikona-Musagara Water System #32
Runyangwe-Nyabitanga Water System #31
Nyawuntunze-Nyamizi Water System #29
Rugomero-Nyamuhanga Water System #30
Construction on the Rugomero-Nyamuhanga water system is complete. When access to clean water helps eliminate water-borne illnesses, children are sick less, which allows them to attend school on a more regular basis. With shortened walking distances, they spend less time gathering and carrying water to their homes. Access to clean water along the route to school and at the school house keeps children clean and hydrated throughout the day, increasing their ability to learn.
We are pleased to announce that construction on the Rugomero-Nyamuhanga water system began in April 2016, and finished in July 2016. Learn more about this water system.
