This is What Progress Looks Like

Think about your morning.

Turning on the tap.
Making coffee.
Filling a glass of water, or a water bottle.

In Austin, it’s automatic.

In Ruzira and Mahwa Collines in Burundi Africa, it has meant walking miles—every day—for water that isn’t safe.

That’s what this project construction is changing.

Right now, construction of a new water system is happening. The Musinzira-Mahwa water system is our 77th project in Burundi. Crews are digging trenches, laying pipe, and building out a 14 km (8.7 mile) network of pipeline designed to bring clean water directly into the community.

This work is built to last—designed with durable infrastructure and constructed alongside local workers who know the terrain and the long-term needs of the community.

If you’d like to see how the full system comes together, you can explore the design and approach here.

And this isn’t a future promise.

Clean water is already flowing—and it’s been flowing for weeks.

With each step forward, it’s reaching more people, moving closer to homes, becoming part of daily life.

You can see it in small moments, people stopping to drink, children gathering as water runs.

When complete, this system will serve 3,500 people.

But even now, the impact is already visible. Health is improving. Time is given back. Kids can be in school instead of walking for water. What was once a daily burden begins to lift.

In a world where so much feels uncertain, this is something different.

And it’s happening because people like you chose to be part of it.

See How We Build Water Systems

Our approach is designed for long-term, reliable access to clean water—built with local labor develops local knowledge for upkeep and maintenance, as the ownership of all water systems are turned over to the community upon completion. That means that durable infrastructure, and a focus on sustainability is present from day one.
