Saving Lives Through Access To Clean Water: Update on Heineken Africa Foundation Grant

In Burundi the number one cause of death is water-borne illnesses such as typhoid, diarrhea, hepatitis A, schistosomiasis. The HEINEKEN Africa Foundation investment of $57,747 helps to tackle this problem. As part of our stewardship of the HAF grant and in support of our operating values, the Gazelle Foundation is pleased to share the following update based on the key success indicators identified for the project. Together we are transforming lives.

Joy! Water for 3,800 More People

With great joy, we announce the completion of three more water systems. The handover to local residents means 3,800 more people have access to as much water as they need.

For perspective that's water for more people than the number of students enrolled at several Austin area high schools: Austin High School 2,262, Del Valle High School 3,003, Lake Travis High School 2,699, Vandegrift High School 2,257, Westlake High School 2,655.

Today, two water collection tanks have been completed in addition to four tap stands to access water. Once complete, the Taba-Henyera system’s six tap stands will provide a clean water source to approximately 1,750 people, like the ones pictured here. Together we are transforming lives.

12 Week Progress Update: Water System Is Nearing Completion

Week 12: Progress continues on the Kiziba-Rokoma project in Songa Commune of Burundi. Our team reports that multiple milestones have been met in the development of the 2.4-kilometer-long water system. Once finished 1,300 people will have regular access to as much clean water as they need.
